Hvorostovsky gave a great recital end of June. Didn't understand a word, was all in Russian. Gave autographs afterward, could talk a little. He was nicer than back then in NY.
The Festival went pretty well this summer. Mozart's Requiem was a pleasure to sing. Plus the queer factor this year was much better than the years before. Diva Delka and I had a ball, by the way, I partizipated in this year's gay pride in Vienna as emperor Franz Josef, Sissi's husband.
Ramey will appear in Tosca this Sept, Hampson in Tell. Peter Schreier will give his last recital in Vienna: Winterreise.
Cheers!

Do you know cheap places in NY where I could spend a year? Like a campus or other student housing? The way I lived in NY for a week back in 2003 was an exception not the normalty. I think of spending my year of obligatory civilwork-instead of a year in the army we can work for a social institution in Austria or abroad and since I change to history now this would be perfect for me-atthe Leo Baeck institute. It's still in planing and I might not be able to do this but if I go I have to take care for my accommodation myself and this is one of the most important questions. So if you have an idea please let me know.

spiralflames health update

greetings. you don't know me, but i'm a friend of [info]spiralflames. she's been off lj for months, and i just talked to her on the phone and promised i'd let everyone on her friends list know, personally, how she was doing.

first, the bad news: her declining health of this year was due to undiagnosed ovarian cancer. it was finally properly diagnosed, and last week she had two tumors removed in an 11-hour operation, and one of them was gigantic.

the good news: the doctors feel that they got it all out, and with a course of chemo the prospects are bright.

now the fantastic news: [info]spiralflames is beating all expectations with the rapidity of her recovery: within 2 days her blood chemistry was back to normal, and an expected stay of a week in ICU turned out to be one day.

she's kicking some serious ass. :)

if you'd like to send her a message of any kind, feel free to reply to this or to write me at foosi@comcast.net. if you need a phone number or address, write me and i'll get the info from her when i talk to her next. i'm sure she can use all the positive encouragement possible.

keep her in your thoughts. she's cherishing every minute of life right now and i'm sure she wants you to do the same.
